Glenfiddich 50 YO lands in LA travel retail

William Grant & Sons Global Travel Retail has partnered with travel retailer DFS Group to release a 50-year old, $17,000 bottle of Glenfiddich at Los Angeles International Airport.

Glenfiddich global brand ambassador Ian Millar and Polly Nelson, managing director of DFS North America, unveiled the expression at the DFS duty free store at the airport’s Tom Bradley International Terminal (TBIT).

50 bottles of the 50-year old are released each year, only one of which has been made available to travel retail in the Americas.

Nelson said: “This is one of the rarest and most precious expressions ever released by one of Scotland’s most distinguished distilleries.”

Stephen Corrigan, William Grant & Sons regional director for North America Travel Retail, added: “This event has been a real high point in 2011 - a year focussed on 'premiumising' our business in North America travel retail.”

According to William Grant & Sons, the 50-year old bottle design has taken “cues” from the distillery’s 124-year history.

The bottles are ‘hand-blown’, individually numbered and presented in hand-stitched, leather-bound cases.

The 50-year old is joined at TBIT by Glenfiddich’s core range, the 12-year old, 14-year old,  Old Rich Oak, 15-year old Solera Reserve , 18-year old and 19-year old Age of Discovery.
