Olmeca Altos Anejo readies for UK and US launch

Pernod Ricard is working on the release of an Anejo variant of its Olmeca Altos tequila.

Olmeca Altos Anejo is still in production and will be launched around May 2014 to the US and UK – key markets for the brand’s super-premium Altos range, which currently comprises a Blanco and Reposado.

From his base in Mexico, Steffin Oghene, Olmeca’s global brand representative, told Drinks International that while he was still working on the age mix of the new tequila, it would likely be a blend of 18 month-matured spirit drawn from 200 litre ex-bourbon barrels.

Anejo tequilas are only required to have a minimum age of 1 year in barrel. Barrels can be up to 600 litres in capacity for the style.

About the copper pot still-made tequila, Oghene said: “[The taste] will be rich in agave but it will still have wood notes.”
