Bowmore 1964 sells for £61K

A bottle of 1964 Bowmore single malt whisky, which was priced at £8,000 on its release last year, has sold at auction for £61,000.

The charity auction, held last month by the The Worshipful Company of Distillers, saw 55 lots of whisky raise over £250,000 for The Benevolent, Trelya, Alcohol Education Trust and The Distillers’ Charity.

The hand blown Bowmore bottle, is one of the most expensive whiskies to ever be sold at auction but still falls under the price set by Morrison Bowmore for its 1957, which is priced at £100,000.

Mike Keiller, managing director, Morrison Bowmore Distillers, said: “To see the 1964 Bowmore reach £61,000 gave me  a real sense of pride. It means that some very worthy good causes will receive a significant financial boost with Christmas approaching.

“It is also a reminder of how Bowmore’s unique history and reputation continues to be demonstrated via the exceptional  prices paid by collectors at specialist auctions.”
