Tate Modern creates beer pairing menu

London art gallery Tate Modern, has created a beer and food pairing menu in its levels six and nine restaurants throughout the summer.

The new menu is in coordination with the gallery’s Soul of a Nation exhibition and each course will be paired with a different US craft beer.

“We thought we could have some fun combining US soul music and craft beer with a fine dining experience,” said Andrew Downs, operations director at Tate Food & Drink.

“I think beer pairings could definitely become more popular. Obviously the continued increase in popularity of craft beer in the UK has opened a door to more possibilities.”

Downs told DI that the menu uses 330ml servings as beer is more filling than wine or spirits and attracts a wider audience. He also said that the price difference between wine tasting menus and beer tastings is ‘equivalent’.

Downs added: “We’ve discovered that sour beers go really well our chocolate mouse and all of our plates come with a separate beer, ranging from IPAs to stouts.”

Two Roads Brewing Company, Flying Dog Brewery and Brooklyn Brewery are all on the tasting menu.
