Capewine 2018 attracts record numbers

Capewine 2018 attracted a record 2,414 visitors from 66 different countries, which is 27% more visitors than the previous event held in 2015.

Capewine is Wines of South Africa’s triennial wine trade show which was held at the Cape Town International Convention Centre 12-14 September 2018.

The show included seminars, themed tastings and events in and around the Cape winelands, either side of the three-day trade show.

Siobhan Thompson, CEO of Wines of South Africa, said: “We are immensely proud of the progress our industry has made in recent years with the quality of our wines and recognition for it at an all time high.

“Capewine 2018 saw important discussions raised over the future of our industry and what we need to do to sustain it in the long term. Our winemakers stand tall among their international counterparts with wines that have a real sense of place, have elegance and finesse, and stylistic qualities that reflect a true South African identity.”

Victoria Mason, UK Waitrose buyer, said: “I was completely blown away by Capewine 2018 – the quality and diversity of wines on show, the passion of the people behind the wines, the level of excitement all week from guests and exhibitors, the ‘extra-curricular’ programme of events and tastings and the optimism and determination of the industry as a whole in the face of some significant external challenges.”
