The auction house had an upper estimate of US$32,000 for the French wine, which belonged to Robert Drouhin, a former director of Burgundy wine producer Maison Joseph Drouhin.

There were 600 bottles of the particular Romanee-Conti produced in 1945 and on the same day at Sotheby’s another Romanee-Conti from the same year, also owned by Drouhin, went for $496,000.

The previous record was set in Hong Kong by a bottle of1869 Chateau Lafite Rothschild which raised $233,000 at auction.
