Bonhams to auction largest Scotch collection

Bonhams in Edinburgh is predicting strong interest in a 3,000-strong collection of Scotch whiskies it is offering at its November 18 auction.

A Scottish auction house is preparing to sell the biggest single-owner collection of Scotch whisky ever offered to the market.

Bonhams in Edinburgh is handling the sale of more than 3,000 bottles of Scotch – the lifetime collection of former United Airlines employee Willard Folsom, who died last year aged 64.

The auction house is predicting strong interest in the sale and reports a wave of new buyers entering the whisky market in recent times.

Willard Folsom was first inspired to collect malt whiskies in 1988, and his collection includes well-known names such as Glenfiddich, Glenmorangie, Laphroaig, Springbank, the Glenlivet and the Macallan. Although none of the whiskies is particularly rare, Bonhams said the collection was notable for its sheer range of brands and styles.

The auction takes place in the Scottish capital on November 18.
