Russians are slowing down their vodka consumption, leaving litres of the spirit sitting in distilleries.
Russians are slowing down their vodka consumption, leaving litres of the spirit sitting in distilleries. National Alcohol Association statistics indicate a fall in the demand for vodka over the past couple of months, and November inventories show unsold vodka stock to be six times higher than in 2007, at 82 million litres.Producers have so much surplus stock that in October, they cut output by around 15%.The fall in demand has been linked the current economic climate and the lack of credit available. The National Alcohol Association said people are turning to cheaper vodkas in an effort to save money.
