UK retailer Tesco is joining forces with wine suppliers Brown Brothers and De Bortoli, both based in the Australian state of Victoria, to raise AUD $100,000 towards assisting the communities affected by the bushfires.

Tesco will contribute 50p from the sale of each bottle of Brown Brothers and De Bortoli wine, with all proceeds donated to helping these communities rebuild their lives.

The Australian bushfires swept across the state of Victoria in early February, killing 210 people and destroying thousands of square miles of land. Whilst many of the wineries were lucky to escape any real damage, the fires have affected every part of life in the State, and the rebuilding operation will last for many months to come.

Dan Jago, Tesco BWS category director said: “It is critical at times like these that we pull together as an industry and support not only the affected wineries but the wider Victorian community. We have the reach here in the UK to make a real impact on the fund, and we are confident that our customers will support the initiative”.

The Brown Brothers winery, located in Milawa, Victoria, has not been directly affected, but is close enough to witness the destruction to homes, lives and livelihoods.
