US: Martignetti and Commonwealth Wine & Spirits join distro forces

US: New England distributor Martignetti Companies of Norwood, has acquired Commonwealth Wine & Spirits of Mansfield, MA.
Commonwealth is the exclusive distributor of E & J Gallo Winery brands in Massachusetts, as well as a portfolio of other wines and spirits.
Martignetti Companies is now the seventh largest wine and spirits distributor in the US.
Commonwealth will become a division of Martignetti Companies. It will consist of an exclusive selling organisation for the E & J Gallo brands, and will operate from the Martignetti facility in Norwood. Additional brands in the Commonwealth portfolio will be represented by other divisions within the Martignetti organisation.
Carmine and Carl Martignetti said: "This acquisition represents a tremendous opportunity to begin a new strategic partnership with E & J Gallo Winery and at the same time to build upon the demonstrated success of the Commonwealth organisation in our marketplace."
The transaction was completed on July 10, 2009
