London Essence, Avallen and ecoSpirits create low waste serve

Mixer brand The London Essence, Calvados brand Avallen and low carbon, low waste spirits distribution technology ecoSpirits, have joined together to create ‘The Sustainable Spritz’, a low waste serve that eliminates single use glass.

The Sustainable Spritz serve, which uses 50ml of Avallen Calvados sourced from an ecoTote, saving approximately 2.7kg of carbon waste, is then combined with London Essence White Peach & Jasmine Crafted Soda from its dispense system, which has been engineered to include London Essence’s range of sodas.

Iain McPherson, sales director Europe for ecoSpirits, said: “The Sustainable Spritz taps into the consumer trend for refreshing drinks while appealing to the increasing number of consumers making planet-positive buying choices, and it’s also a great example of how technology can be used to create sustainable solutions.”

ecoSpirits’ distribution system allows spirits and wines to be transported in bulk to local markets where they are processed into a reusable ecoTote format for delivery to bars.

The ecoTote is a reusable, refillable 4.5L glass packaging format, which replaces a standard six-bottle case of spirits, offering venues an average of 95% less physical glass and cardboard waste.

By reducing the need for single use glass, the three companies have been able to create a serve which delivers a reduction in both packaging waste and carbon emission footprint.

Tim Etherington-Judge, co-founder of Avallen, said: “Sustainability is high on the agenda for many as we all strive to reduce waste and be more planet friendly in the hospitality industry. This new serve, which in time I hope will become as well-known as a Margarita or Daiquiri, is the answer to anyone who wants a sustainable cocktail that tastes amazing.”

The serve will make its debut at the Positive Spirits show on 17 June 2023 before it’s introduced across selected hospitality venues later this summer.
