Asbach '52 launched for 120th anniversary

German distiller Asbach has released a special edition 1952 vintage brandy to celebrate its 120th anniversary.

Distillery and brand owner Underberg said Johann Wolfgang von Goethe Vintage Reserve numbers only 900 1-litre carafes and costs €2,000 a bottle.

The spirit was created at the Rüdesheim distillery from a 1951 white wine and left to age for six decades.

Presented in a Bohemian style glass bottle, Each features a cask number and a certificate of authenticity, all encased in a box made from Bavarian forest wood.

The presentation case also includes two Asbach-branded glasses.

The brandy, which is available to 26 countries worldwide, was first presented in December 2012, 120 years after Hugo Asbach founded the Rüdesheim distillery on the river banks of the Rhine in 1892.

According to Underberg, Asbach is “among the three best known spirit brands in Germany” with “brand awareness of 85%”.
