Côtes du Rhône Wines announce rising export figures
Côtes du Rhône Wines exports have increased worldwide due to rising consumer confidence in the quality of the wines, according to the latest figures.
The UK has remained the number one export market for Rhône Valley AOC wines - following a 2% increase last year - representing 19% of the total volume of wines exported.
Michel Chapoutier, president of Inter-Rhône, said: “The results highlight the strength of the Rhône in the UK and the growing consumer confidence in the quality of its wines. This can be attributed to the various initiatives and fresh thinking demonstrated by the region, from the focus on quality viticulture to opportunities of sampling at key local events and international fairs.”
Rhône Valley AOC sold around 388 million bottles in the rest of the world in 2015. Red wine continues to prove the most popular, representing 79% of the total production. A focus on rosé wine has seen the production double over the last decade, accounting for 14%, while white wine represents 7% of the wine produced.
