Champagne Armand de Brignac Blanc de Blancs en Magnum (12.5% abv) is new from Shawn Carter. The 100% Chardonnay cuvée is made with fruit sourced from both the traditional Chardonnay territory, the Côte des Blancs, and from Montagne de Reims. The resulting Blanc de Blancs is said to have a powerful acidity and lightness, elegantly balanced with suppleness and roundness.

The winemakers chose to set aside a small quantity in a larger format bottle, to study its development and aging. The Blanc de Blancs en Magnum rested for seven years on lees in the cellars in Champagne, and for an additional year on cork.

Tasting note: Creamy, complex and long, the palate shows complex layers of honey, orange blossom, apricot, pineapple and raisins. The bead is delicate and finish very long.

Baron Philippe de Rothschild Maipo Chile has unveiled its three-tier Mas Andes range of wines (13% abv) from the Maipo and Maule Valleys to UK off-trade customers. The launch is part of an international strategy for the new wines following their introduction in Germany last year.

With a growing Chilean off-trade sector in the UK, 2018 was seen as the right time to launch in the UK.

Campari has launched a small-batch Italian gin (45% abv), made with 19 hand-selected Italian botanicals including, from Liguria, fresh basil of the Grande Verde di Genova variety, famed for its sweetness and vibrant colour, and citrus from southern Italy.

O’ndina is said to be: “Inspired by the effortless glamour and carefree spirit of the Italian Riviera in the 1960s and embodies the ongoing allure of La Dolce Vita.

“As relevant today as it was then, the refreshing and herbaceous O’ndina transports you to the Italian Riviera, capturing the contemporary allure of Italy in a drink.”

Glenmorangie Grand Vintage Malt 1989 (43% abv) is the first expression to be part-matured in rare ex-Côte-Rôtie casks.

This single malt whisky is the second limited release in Glenmorangie’s Vintage Collection – Bond House No.1 – which explores some of the Highland distillery’s most prestigious parcels of aged whisky.

Dr Bill Lumsden, director of whisky creation said: “After 27 years of patient maturation, I knew that Glenmorangie Grand Vintage Malt 1989 was ready to share.

“Each cask in the assemblage had been carefully chosen to complement the exquisite depths brought to the whisky by the parcel finished in ex-Côte-Rôtie casks.”

Tasting notes: An oily, viscous mouthfeel with a gentle peppery sensation on the palate. More baked apples, fudge and gentle citrus flavours.

Inchmoan 10 year old (46% abv) is Loch Lomond’s new heavily peated single malt, a mix of three spirit styles giving a “layered taste profile”.

Tasting notes: “On the nose peat smoke and green apple with fresh vanilla.

“To taste, phenolic and smoky with charred oak balancing vanilla toffee sweetness.”

Le Phant is a series of five wines launched by Elephant Hill (12.5-14% abv), only initially available in Asia. Elephant Hill will donate a percentage of each bottle sold to the Elephant Family charity.

The wines carry labels featuring elephant sculptures from Elephant Parade, a social enterprise that runs an art exhibition of decorated elephant sculptures in aid of elephant conservation, which have exhibited in more than 20 cities around the world.

The latest Elephant Parade 101-strong herd (in recognition of the 101 elephant corridors created by the charity to enable safe passage to fresh feeding grounds) arrived in Mumbai in February 2018, India being home to the world’s largest population of Asian elephants.

The five wines are: Le Phant Blanc 16, Le Phant Rosé 17, Le Phant Rouge 16, Le Phant Sauvignon Blanc 16 and Le Phant Syrah 15.

Tanqueray Flor De Sevilla (41.3%) is the newest addition to Tanqueray’s gin portfolio. The use of Seville oranges goes back to Tanqueray’s roots when founder Charles Tanqueray used these world-famous oranges in his original 1830s recipes. The company says flavours of “bittersweet Seville oranges, orange blossom, natural flavours and other fine botanicals are crafted together to create a tangy, sweet gin perfect for those summer evening occasions”.

It adds: “In a category fuelled by experimentation and discovery, Tanqueray Flor de Sevilla stands out from many artificially flavoured gins. The bittersweet flavour captures the spirit of Seville and takes you straight to the iconic orange groves of southern Spain.”

Sanziana, the new wine brand (12-12.5% abv) created by Corney & Barrow Wine Merchants, is from the hills of south west Romania, where warm sunny days and cool midsummer nights provid perfect ripening conditions for Pinot Noir and Pinot Grigio.

Premium Romanian wine estate Recas Cramele was founded in 1998 and is owned by a winemaking team of three families, with vineyards that are said to be some of the oldest in the world.

Mr Black Coffee Amaro (25.8% abv) is the latest launch from Australia’s Mr Black Roasters & Distillers, and is a tribute to the country’s coffee culture and Italy’s amaro heritage. Made with cold brew coffee and 13 additional distilled and macerated fresh botanicals – including citrus from the brand’s distillery garden – Mr Black Coffee Amaro can be drunk neat as a digestif or as an aperitif with tonic and is currently featured on the new American Bar menu at The Savoy.

Tasting notes include “bitter gentian, orange, grapefruit and toasted coffee, high quality bitter finish without overwhelming the palate.”
