Malbec international competition

The Concours des Vins has announced a new wine competition the aim of which is draw attention to the Malbec grape variety.
The Concours des Vins (CDV) has announced that a new varietal wine competition, the Malbec International Competition, which will be staged between November 27 and 28.
The CDV, which describes itself as a non-profit association set up to organise wine competitions, says it wishes to draw attention to Malbec which is historically the grape variety of Cahors, in south-west France but has become the principal red variety of Argentina.
The CDV says Malbec has “highly specific organoleptic qualities” and has an international dimension being cultivated in both hemispheres.
By staging the event the CDV hopes to extend consumers’ knowledge of wine diversity and it will showcase Malbec producers.
The CDV is hoping to gather between 350 and 400 samples from at least 10 countries and it says there will be around forty wine tasters, drawn from the world's top Malbec specialists.
The organisers claim the Malbec competition has been set up according to the sequence set up by the OIV (Organisation Internationale de la Vigne et du Vin) and it has two “privileged partnerships” with Argentina and with the region of Cahors.
The CDV re-iterates that as a non-profit organization apart from operating costs, most of the budget is spent on communication and promotion.

Beyond this date, every subscriber will have to send his samples, incurring the costs, directly to the CDV, before October 20.
