Sapporo Breweries has created a beer from barley grown inside the International Space Station, according to a report in newspaper Japan Today.

Tastings of the aptly named Sapporo Space Barley beer will be held in January and 30 couples have been selected though a lottery system. Sapporo has only made 100 litres of the beer and it will not go on sale.

According to the report in Japan Today, the barley used is a third generation off-shoot of the original plant stored for five months in a Russian laboratory in the station. The beer has been tested by Sapporo employees and apparently tastes like normal beer.
