BrewDog overtakes Carlsberg in global beer brand value rankings

BrewDog has been ranked 14th most valuable beer brand in the world by independent brand valuation and consultancy firm Brand Finance, in its Alcoholic Drinks Report 2022, which ranks the world’s top 50 most valuable beer brands.

Brand Finance has valued the BrewDog brand at $1,953 billion, an increase of 8% since 2021 ($1,808 billion), using its proprietary “Royalty Relief” methodology to calculate brand value by determining the value a company would be willing to pay to license its brand, as if it wasn’t the owner.

James Watt, CEO of BrewDog, said: “We are thrilled to have risen again in the Brand Finance rankings. It reflects how much we have achieved and grown in the past year, but we still have so much more to aim for if we are to truly challenge the majors, which is still our ambition. Overtaking Carlsberg for the first time is a real milestone for us and we hope, a sign of greater things to come.”

As part of its analysis, the consultancy awarded BrewDog an AA+ brand strength rating (up from AA in 2021), which is based on the efficacy of a brand’s performance on intangible measures relative to its competitors.

BrewDog is the only UK beer brand ranked in the top 50 and has overtaken Carlsberg for the first time in its 15 year history.
