The app, which is available in 13 languages and is free to download from the Apple iTunes store on December 20, enables smart phone users to access information about Bordeaux wines.

Contributed by the region’s wine growers, information is provided on appellation, ratings, history of the estate or brand, characteristics of the soils, winemaking process, tasting notes, photos and videos.

Also available on iPads and computers, users can search by barcode, QR code (a type of barcode readable by smart phones), by photographing the wine labels, or by searching the specific chateau name.

Users are protected against fake Bordeaux wines by pointers on authentication and warnings about the threat of misleading wine labels.

Tourist information on chateaus, accommodation and event facilities is also available on the app.
