Cutty Sark Tam o’Shanter arrives in travel retail

The Edrington Group has launched a limited edition of its Cutty Sark 25 Year Old to global travel retail.

Cutty Sark Tam o’Shanter, a 46.5% blended scotch whisky priced at US$329 and numbering 5,000 bottles, is named after a work penned by Scottish poet Robert Burns in 1790.

It was chosen because the name Cutty Sark - which in 1869 became the name of the ship the scotch brand took its name from in 1923 - was first referred to in the poem Tam o’Shanter.

The bottle design features a scene from the poem and incorporates a wax closure with a depiction of Tam o’Shanter’s face.

According to The Edrington Group, the design was inspired by Alexander Goudie, a Scottish, figurative artist.

The bottle is presented in an oak gift box, “in the style of Goudie”, containing a 134-page book telling the story of Tam o’ Shanter.

Jason Craig, brand controller of Cutty Sark in the US, said: “Our Tam o’Shanter bottling is an exploration of the Cutty Sark brand’s fascinating heritage, and tells the story of how our whisky got its name.

“Our master blender Kirsteen Campbell has brought a darker edge to our award winning 25 Year Old blend, echoing the sinister imagery of the Goudie artwork adorning the gift box and bottle, which stays true to the adventurous spirit of the Cutty Sark brand.”
