Wine sector growth will come from the likes of China - which is forecast to be 39.7% up and is now the fifth largest consumer of wine - Russia - which is expected to increase 17.8%, taking it ahead of Argentina into 8^{th -} and the US - which despite being the largest consumer of wine in the world, will grow a further 12.2% by 2016.

By 2016, France - which is predicted to drop -2.9% to 300.9m 9-litre cases - will maintain its position as the second largest consumer of wine, while Italy - down 4.89% between 2012-2016 - is expected to be beaten by Germany (3.5% up) into third.  

Sparkling wine, now 7.7% of total consumption, is expected to be the fastest growing style with an increase of 8.5% during 2012-2016.

The UK will overtake Germany as the world’s top destination for sparkling wine.

But the world still prefers red wine, according to the IWSR, with the style accounting for 54.7% of the total.
