Kilchoman relases this year's Machir Bay

Islay’s smallest distillery, Kilchoman, is to launch the 2013 edition of its Machir Bay expression.

Available globally from March 4 this year, Machir Bay is Kilchoman’s annually released, core line.

Machir Bay 2013 is a vatting of 4-year old Oloroso sherry butt-matured and 5-year old ex-bourbon cask-aged whiskies.

According to the distillery, the age of the whiskies contained in Machir Bay increases year on year.

The west-coast of Islay distillery’s inventory is still in its infancy having only been founded by Anthony Wills in 2005, when it  became the first distillery to be built on the Scottish isle for 125 years.

Machir Bay 2013 is bottled at 46% ABV and is available to buy from www.kilchomandistillery.com or specialist whisky retailers worldwide for RRP £39.99.

A spokesperson for Kilchoman said 150,000 litres are expected to be produced.

Anthony Wills, Kilchoman managing director: “Sales of Machir Bay 2012 far exceeded our expectations so we hope people will be equally impressed with this year’s more mature offering.”

John MacLellan, Kilchoman distillery manager, said: “The 2013 Machir Bay displays further evolution of the 2012 release, showing more maturation flavours from the excellent cask regime and is softer and more rounded with lovely creamy mouth- filling flavours."
