The brands, which are both distributed by Pol Roger in the UK, have been packaged in wooden obelisks and the retail price for the pair is £14,000.

There are 125 pairs, which will be distributed initially through Pol Roger, and one will be on display at Vinexpo.

The launch took place at Westminster Abbey alongside a celebration of 60 years of the Oxford and Cambridge blind wine-tasting competition.

Hine cellar master Eric Forget described the 1953 vintage as a “one of the best of the last century”.
