Glenmorangie launches ‘rare’ grain whisky Tùsail

Glenmorangie has launched the sixth release in its Private Edition Collection, a single malt made from ‘rare’ Maris Otter barley.

Maris Otter barley was first commercially harvested 50 years ago, but demand and quality began to fall as producers switched to varieties with greater efficiencies.

The work of two British seed merchants re-established the grain’s purity and saved Maris Otter from extinction.

Dr Bill Lumsden, Glenmorangie’s director of distilling and whisky creation, said: “When we heard the story of those determined to preserve such a flavoursome grain, their ethos – and the barley itself – seemed the perfect match for a Glenmorangie single malt.

“I knew its deep flavour profile would provide an intriguing contrast to Glenmorangie’s more delicate house style, creating a whisky to enchant connoisseurs. “

Glenmorangie’s Private Editions range, first launched in 2010, has released a rare single malt whisky each year for collectors and connoisseurs.

Glenmorangie Tùsail - bottled at 46% abv - will be available for £75.99 at Glenmorangie.com, Independent specialist retailers and department stores.
