Wosa launches Intrepid South Africa

Wines of South Africa has launched a new UK generic tasting for the trade only, called ‘Intrepid South Africa’.

It will be held on Thursday September 8 at Tobacco Dock, London, from 10.00 – 18.00.

Intrepid South Africa is a trade-only event for buyers in both the on and off trade, sommeliers, importers, wholesalers, educators and media. The tasting will showcase wines from more than 100 South African producers.

Wosa says Intrepid South Africa will feature a tasting trail that will take visitors on a ‘journey’ through South African wines, with tastings of 15 wines at eight themed Tasting Trail stations around the event, one of which will feature black-owned brands.

The Tasting Trail will include informal presentations from some of South Africa’s most pioneering winemakers and a blind tasting zone where visitors can test their tasting skills. The Tasting Trail will also contain wines from other countries, highlighting South Africa’s confidence in producing world class wines, while also demonstrating that South Africa has honed its own style and identity.

Wosa’s UK market manager Jo Wehring said: “The UK is the leading export market for South African wines and this tasting offers visitors an opportunity to explore our wines, meet the winemakers, expand their knowledge of South Africa and find great products that suit their businesses.

“The interest in South Africa from the UK has shifted in the past five years and this is a market in which it’s possible to sell everything from top end, boutique wines to high volume brands and private labels. The image of South African wines has never been better and we are seeing the value of exports to the UK outperforming volume by 20%, indicating that UK consumers are buying better and are engaged with the country across a wide variety of price points.”
