Robert J Cooper dies aged 39

Robert J Cooper, creator of St Germain elderflower liqueur, has died at the age of 39 in Santa Barbara, California.

Cooper was, until his as yet unexplained death, the director of Cooper Spirits Company, after he sold St Germain to Bacardi in 2012.  Known as the “bartender’s ketchup”, the liqueur has been available since 2007, achieving global success.

Cooper went on to revive a berry-violet liqueur called Crème Yvette, Hochstadter’s Slow & Low rye whiskey and released Lock Stock & Barrel, a 13-year-old rye whiskey.

He is survived by his wife and their two children, William and Charlotte.
