Grey Goose brunch club encourages food pairing trend

Grey Goose vodka has begun hosting a brunch club in London to encourage the emerging trend of pairing cocktails with food.

Dan Berger, head of bars at The Ned hotel in London teamed up with food blogger Anna Barnett to host a Le Grand Fizz brunch series in partnership with Grey Goose vodka.

“I just wanted to open different drinks to people and let them experience and match different taste profiles,” said Berger.

“I don’t think that many people do know their own preferred taste profiles. I think they know the obvious ones like bitter and sweet, but things like umami is still fairly unknown.”

The Le Grand Fizz is a cocktail comprising of Grey Goose vodka, St-Germain elderflower liqueur, soda water and lime – which has been modified five times to pair with different foods created by Barnett.

Berger added: “I’d like to get more people eating in cocktail bars to expose different taste profiles. I think this is a rising trend because people are now more educated and exposed to the information.

“Obviously the cocktail scene has grown in popularity over the past 10 years, and I think that it’s actually quite fun rather than challenging to find people’s preferred taste profiles.”

The first edition of the brunch club will take place on 12 August at Carousel restaurant in London. Tickets are available here.
