Benevolent bike ride raises £13,000
The Benevolent, the charity for the UK drinks trade, has announced that a bike ride, in memory of Dan Townsend the Treasury Wine Estates’ European managing director who died in March while on business in Napa valley, raised more than £13,000.
Thirty riders signed up to join the challenge’s organisers, Conviviality’s group wine buying director Andrew Shaw, and Philip Tuck MW, Hatch Mansfield’s wine director.
The riders gathered at Ridgeview Wine Estate on Sunday August 13 and then set off to face the 100km ride. After climbing the highest point in Surrey, Leith Hill, the riders went up Box Hill before reaching Treasury Wine Estates’ HQ in Twickenham for a post-ride BBQ and drinks reception provided by TWE.
Shaw, said: “We’ve been overwhelmed with the levels of trade support and generosity for the bike ride in memory of Dan. Speaking on behalf of all involved I would like to thank all the organisers, hosts, sponsors, riders, supporters and to the team at the Benevolent for what was a brilliant day out in the saddle to commemorate Dan.
Benevolent chief executive David Cox, said: “This was yet another example of how this wonderful trade comes together as a true community in order to help others. I would like to thank everyone involved but especially all the incredibly generous donors. You have made a real difference”.
