NZ pollution halts Emerson's brewing

New Zealand-based brewery Emerson's, was forced to halt production last night (15 August) after local water supplies were contaminated due to drainage failures.

More than 2,500 homes in New Zealand-based city Dunedin remain on a boiling water notice and Emerson’s has ensured no beer will be brewed with dirty water.

“Anything that went out before Monday is good as gold, so the safest thing to do is to drink beer,” said Emerson’s general manager Chris O’Leary to tvnz.

The water regulations were issued after drainage failure occurred at a city reservoir, which affected the area’s water system.

The first test results from the polluted water network will determine the length of time the international brewery will be unable to brew.
