According to a report by CA Grand Crus, early promise of a good harvest failed to materialise across Bordeaux.

Left bank vineyards, however, escaped frost damage due to protection offered by the thermal inertia of the Gironde river, with Saint- Estephe, Pauillac and Margaux showing promise. 

“In these vineyards, the quality of the wines gives us cause for celebration,” said Thierry Budin, managing director. 

CA Grands Crus also stated that the vines benefited from the remaining spring being “exceptionally hot” and contrasting summer, while the heavy rains of early September worked to help rebalance the vintage profile. 

In the frost affected areas, the nights of the 27 and 28 April saw temperatures fall significantly. As a result, a number of vineyards have lost all of their harvest.
