Dave Broom: World Class "huge" for Glasgow

Diageo World Class judge Dave Broom said having the finals in Glasgow was a “huge deal” for the city’s hospitality industry.

The renowned whisky writer was one of the judges for the global final’s of Diageo’s World Class cocktail competition which was held in Glasgow in September.

“For Glasgow to have the attention of the leading bartenders from around the world is a huge deal for the city,” said Broom. “All of the upcoming cocktail bars within Glasgow will have benefitted from the exposure which the competition brings and I thoroughly enjoyed my time taking part.”

This year’s Global Finals featured a Cocktail Safari, where members of the trade were guided around the bars of Glasgow by a representative of Diageo, allowing attendees to discover what the city has to offer.

Bannie Kang of Singapore bar Anti:dote won this year's competition, which had different challenges held in the Netherlands and Isle of Skye before culminating in Glasgow’s SWG3.

World Class remains arguably the biggest cocktail competition within the industry and has given birth to several top bartenders over the years.
