Artesian appoints new head bartender as Savage departs

Marco Corallo will join The Langham’s Artesian on Monday, replacing Remy Savage, Drinks International can exclusively reveal.

The Italian bartender joins the London hotel bar from Caesar’s Palace & Resort in Dubai, where he was beverage manager overseeing 14 food and drinks outlets.

Though Corallo has worked in London as head sommelier at The Savoy’s Kaspar’s Seafood Bar and Grill, his name was made in the Middle East, where he also worked at Ray’s Bar at the Jumeirah at Etihad Towers in Abu Dhabi and Hendricks Bar at the Four Seasons Jumeirah Beach in Dubai.

Savage, who departs today “to pursue his own projects on both sides of the Channel”, joined Artesian alongside bar manager Anna Sebastian in 2017, together overseeing a renaissance for the former four-time World’s 50 Best Bars winner. This year Artesian re-entered the industry’s elite list at no.48.

Under the leadership of the duo, the bar launched three menus, culminating in a two-ingredient drinks list, The Minimalist Menu, which will continue under Corallo’s watch until spring 2020.

Corallo said: "I’m so excited to be back in London in a dream role at Artesian, a bar with so much history and style.  The London bar scene is really thrilling at the moment and I hope to create new and exciting ways to enjoy cocktails, working with Anna Sebastian and the great team at The Langham, London."

Sebastian told DI: ‘‘Marco is the consummate professional, creative and a strong believer in team work.  His background as a sommelier adds another string to his bow too, and I’m looking forward to working with him on a new menu that will launch in spring 2020."
