Limited edition Famous Grouse bottles for Burns Night

06 January, 2009

Edrington has limited edition bottles of its Famous Grouse Scotch whisky to celebrate the 250th anniversary of Scottish bard, Robert Burns.

Scotch whisky distiller, Edrington, has 250 limited edition bottles of a 37-year-old blend of Famous Grouse - Scotland's number one Scotch brand -  to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the birth of Scottish bard, Robert Burns.

Scottish artist and playwright John Byrne was commissioned to create an original drawing of Robert Burns for the label, with the intention of making it a collector’s item as part of the ‘World Famous Burns Supper Celebration’, which takes place on January 25.

Edrington master blender, John Ramsay, selected from a range of casks first laid down in 1971 – the 37 signifies Burns’s age. In keeping with the humanitarian spirit of Burns, these bottles, which are valued upwards of £400, will be auctioned off at burns suppers all over the world helping to raise a minimum of £10,000 for the chosen charities.

Byrne’s artwork has adorned albums by The Beatles, Gerry Rafferty and Billy Connolly. Edrington through Famous Grouse is organising the Burns Supper Celebration in partnership with Homecoming Scotland 2009. The celebration is intended to unite experienced Burnsians and Burns novices around the world encouraging them to come together online, registering their celebrations – big, small, traditional or unusual.

A website www.burnssupper2009.com has been created and so far, more than 1,500 Burns suppers have registered with celebrations taking place from Croatia to Canada, to Indonesia to Iraq, Argentina to Azerbaijan and Scotland to Sri Lanka.

Homecoming Scotland 2009 is a year long celebration kicking featuring more than 300 events that connect with the year’s themes of Burns, golf, whisky, great Scottish minds and innovations and ancestry.
