Chivas launches new Beefeater gin

Chivas Brothers has launched a new special edition Beefeater gin. Developed by master distiller Desmond Payne, Beefeater London Market Gin will be available for a limited period from June 2011 in key global markets, including Spain, UK, Turkey and Bulgaria.

The company first introduced special editions, by way of a Summer and Winter gin in 2010.

Payne is said to have searched for new ingredients available on the capital’s market stalls and the additional botanicals include pomegranate seeds, kaffir lime leaves and cardamom pods.

Payne said: “By using these exotic botanicals, I wanted to create a gin that captures the drinker’s imagination, reminding them of all the colourful aromas, tastes and charm of London’s bustling markets in the summertime.”

According to the press material, the use of pomegranate produces a "berry-like note to introduce a complex and balanced progression of flavours on the palate. Beefeater’s traditional citrus notes of lemon and bitter orange are complimented by the softer lime flavour of Kaffir lime leaves, leading to the classic juniper notes of true London Gin. The sweet spice aromas from a light touch of cardamom gently soften the gin on the palate".

Chivas Brothers is the Scotch whisky and premium gin business of Pernod Ricard.
