Industry recognises design excellence

The Restaurant and Bar Design Awards recognised "excellence" in design and architecture in the global hospitality industry yesterday, at a ceremony in Canary Wharf, London.

The contest saw 330 entrants from 51 countries competing for 11 awards – each representing a category -  plus two overall prizes.

Judges - who included Fay Mashler, restaurant critic; Femke de Wild, editor of Frame magazine;  Karim Rashid, designer,  Ian Callum, design director Jaguar Cars – chose Smack, designed by Steve Smith as best overall bar and Busaba Eathai, designed by David Archer Architects as best restaurant.
