Ian Macleod to reopen Tamdhu, launch premium whisky

Ian Macleod Distillers is to reopen Speyside distillery Tamdhu. The company purchased the distillery in 2011, after it was closed in 2010 by previous owner the Edrington Group.

The company did not disclose the amount paid for the distillery.

Ian Macleod is to relaunch the malt whisky brand in 2013 as a "premium" product. Design agency Good is to relaunch the brand, they recently worked on the redesign of Glengoyne, which Ian Macleod purchased in 2003.

The Tamdhu distillery dates from 1897 and its production capacity was trebled between 1972-1975 and it currently has three wash stills and three spirit stills, capable of producing 4 million litres of alcohol per year.
