Spot on with Yellow Spot

Yellow spot is the latest single pot still whiskey from Irish Distillers.

The 12-year old, 46% abv, whiskey sits above the better known, younger blend, Green Spot.  It was originally produced, bottled and sold by Dublin wine merchants and bonders, Mitchell & Son.

The reincarnated Yellow Spot is a blend of whiskey aged for 12 years in American bourbon barrels, Spanish sherry butts and Spanish Malaga casks. Retailing at around €65 (US$80, £52), the Pernod Ricard division has stipulated that it will produce 500 cases annually.

The whisky is available through Mitchells (naturally), La Maison du Whisky in France, Irisch Lifestyle in Germany and online via the Whisky Exchange.

The Malaga casks contained 100% Pedro Ximenez grapes (third sun-dried grapes to temper the sweetness), so the whiskey had a sweetness with pronounced apricot/peach notes.
