The Rum Experience University launches

Self styled global rum ambassador, Ian Burrell has announced the launch of his Rum Experience University.

The project comprises a five-day intensive course which takes place at the Best Western Hotel in Salobrena, Andalusia, southern Spain between September 16 and 20. It is aimed at professionals and rum enthusiasts.

Burrell is the creative force behind the rum experience programme and he says the course has been designed to offer a rum education “like no other”.

He says students can expect to attend a varied and in-depth programme of rum studies and excursions, covering everything from the history and making of rum to workshops, how to public speak and what makes a world class cocktail.

There will be seminars with guest speakers from the world of spirits including cocktail historians and authors Anastasia Miller and Jared Brown, food scientist Bernard Lahouse, ‘World Tiki authority’ Jeff "Beachbum" Berry and talks with Burrell himself.

The Andalusian coastline is described as steeped in sugar cane history and home of the Ron Montero Distillery which claims to be Europe's last remaining rum distillery.

Places on the course are available from £899, providing a comprehensive course of study and, what Burrell claims will be, an industry recognised rum diploma. Each place is inclusive of bed, breakfast, lunch and dinner at The Rum University Hotel, five days of master classes & seminars, five afternoon rum excursions, Rum Experience University book, Rum diploma – merit or distinction. Flights and transfer to hotel are not included. For more information visit The Rum Experience University website.
