AB InBev expands to Africa

Anheuser-Busch InBev will export African beer brands with ‘huge potential’ to its global market.

As well as exporting eight different brands from the continent, AB InBev will import Corona, Budweiser and Stella Artois.

Ricardo Tadeu, head of African operations AB InBev, said:  “There are so many very unique African brands and I think it is time to sell African beers to the greater market. There is huge potential for these brands to be exported.”

65 million people are due to reach the legal drinking age in Africa by 2023, but slow economic growth and recessions in Nigeria may cause problems for the brewing conglomerate.

AB InBev plans to invest around $200 million over the next year on two production lines in South Africa and a new plant in Nigeria.

But despite the recent development, AB InBev does not have plans to reduce its presence in any of the 31 African markets it already operates in.
