Bénédictine sponsors UKBG competition

Bénédictine has announced that it will be sponsoring this year’s UK Bartenders’ Guild National Cocktail Competition.

The UKBG competition, which is in its 80th year, claims to attract the crème de la crème of UK bartenders. It will hold heats in Manchester, London, Brighton and Glasgow, with the final taking place in London.

The final competition will see mixologists from each region battle it out to win an all-expenses paid trip to South Africa, in 2014 to represent the UK in the IBA World Final.

Competitors will have to create their own bespoke cocktail, which must include a minimum of 25ml of Bénédictine. The judges will not only judge them on the taste of their creation, but on their knowledge of the liqueur and their profession.

UKBG President Daniel Crebesse , said: “It’s brilliant to have Bénédictine liqueur on board this year. The grand prize this year is fantastic so we’re expecting a very high standard of entrants, and are looking forward to presenting the winner with a trip to South Africa!”

Paul Curry, Bénédictine brand manager, said: “The UKBG National Cocktail Competition is a fantastic event to be involved in, attracting a high calibre of entrant who will exploit the versatility of our brand and therefore we’re delighted to be this year’s sponsor.”

The traditional French liqueur created in 1510 and named after its creator, a Bénédictine monk, is made using 27 herbs and spices. This recipe is infused with saffron, honey and caramel in a process that takes two years to complete.

Entrants must be members of the UKBG to enter, with membership available from £35. For more info on how to register, please visit http://www.ukbartendersguild.co.uk
